The origin of “Stroke of Love” is deeply rooted in Leslie Yanke’s personal journey of care and compassion. The venture began amidst the challenges Leslie faced while caring for her close friend and the father of her son, Ed, after he suffered a stroke. This period not only intensified her role as a caregiver but also unveiled the profound isolation and challenges that stroke survivors endure. As Leslie navigated the complexities of Ed’s recovery, she found solace and inspiration in online support groups for stroke victims and caregivers. These platforms offered a sense of community and understanding that was otherwise missing from their lives, highlighting the importance of connection and support among those who truly comprehend the journey of recovery.

The idea for “Stroke of Love” emerged from the realization that stroke survivors, like Ed, needed a dedicated space to find companionship, support, and perhaps even romance. Recognizing the transformative power of shared experiences and the lack of practical resources available post-hospital, Leslie and Ed envisioned a platform that could serve as both a social network and a resource hub for stroke survivors. This concept aimed not only to facilitate connections but also to empower users with valuable information and tools to navigate their altered lives.

With the support of Leslie’s son, Gage, whose commitment to his father’s recovery journey was unwavering, and the resilience and determination of the stroke community, the project transcended its initial vision.
